York Community High School graduate Max Hansmann is headed to professional baseball after being selected by the Washington Nationals in the eighth round (226th overall) of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft.
Hansmann, a member of York's Class of 2022, earned the selection following an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Evansville. This spring, he was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference after emerging as one of the league's top starting pitchers. During the 2026 season, he finished among the conference leaders in strikeouts (83), innings pitched (85.2), and ERA (3.99), while posting an impressive 2.03 ERA in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Throughout his four seasons with the Purple Aces, Hansmann became one of the program's most dependable pitchers. He finished his career ranked among Evansville's all-time leaders in both appearances and strikeouts and played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history.
Hansmann's selection is a significant milestone for both him and the University of Evansville. He became the 47th player in program history to be selected in the MLB Draft and the highest-drafted Purple Ace since 2014.
