This year, the D205 Communications Team produced a documentary titled This Is How We March — a film that takes viewers behind the scenes of the York High School Marching Band to highlight the extraordinary effort that goes into a single Friday night performance.
The idea for the project was sparked by a desire to celebrate and elevate the work our students and staff pour into the performing arts. While Friday night lights often focus on athletics, we wanted to shine a spotlight on the music, movement, and dedication that make our marching band performances so powerful.
Filmed during the week of September 9th, the documentary captures the full arc of the band's preparation — from in-school afternoon rehearsals throughout the week to their halftime performance that Friday night. The 60-minute film was shot and produced entirely in-house by the D205 Communications Team, with additional footage provided by student videographers during the live performance.
This Is How We March is part of our ongoing effort to highlight the arts in our schools and tell meaningful stories that reflect student experiences, passion, and achievement.
The film will premiere on the District 205 YouTube channel on May 12 at 8pm, and we look forward to sharing this inspiring look at the pride, precision, and tradition of the York High School Marching Band with our community.
Help to keep the music alive in D205!
The Elmhurst Music Boosters is holding their annual instrument drive to collect gently used instruments at our upcoming middle school Band, Orchestra and Choir concerts! They are looking for flutes, clarinets, trumpets, violins, trombones, bell kits—or any instrument ready for an encore!
Got an old instrument collecting dust? Give it a second life and help a future musician shine! Drop them off at the EMB Table outside the auditorium before or after your student’s concert. Can’t make the concert but still want to donate? Please email them at eimb205webmaster@gmail.com.
